Thank you for visiting Insider Reviews ("Insider Reviews", "we", "us" or "our"). We publish buyer's guides and product comparisons at this website (the "Website"). We respect your privacy, and this policy explains in plain language what information we collect when you use the Website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights and choices you have.
Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Website. If you have any questions, contact us using the details in section 14.
1. Who we are
In short: Insider Reviews runs this Website and is responsible for the information collected through it.
Insider Reviews is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at info@insider-reviews.com or by post at 195-197 Wood Street, London, E17 3NU, United Kingdom.
2. What information we collect
In short: We collect basic technical and usage information automatically, and anything you choose to send us. We do not offer accounts and we do not ask for payment details.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Website, we and our service providers automatically collect:
- Device and connection data: your IP address (used to estimate your country or region, then truncated or discarded), browser type and version, operating system, device type and screen size.
- Usage data: the pages you view, the time and date of your visit, how long you stay, the page or search that referred you, and which version of a page you saw when we are testing page designs.
- Advertising click data: if you arrive from an online ad, the identifiers the ad platform adds to the link, such as Google's click identifier (gclid), plus the campaign, ad group and keyword.
- Outbound click data: when you click a link to a seller's website, we record the click, the page it came from and the identifiers above, so a resulting purchase can be confirmed.
Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message.
Information from partners. When a purchase is made after you click one of our links, the affiliate network or seller tells us that a sale happened, the commission amount and the reference identifiers we passed to them. They do not send us your name, address or payment details.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive information, such as health, financial or biometric data, about you.
3. How we use your information
In short: To run and improve the Website, measure which pages and ads work, confirm sales from our links, keep the Website secure and comply with the law.
- To provide and maintain the Website, including showing you the right page and keeping it fast and available.
- To measure and improve our content, for example to see which guides are read and which page designs people find most useful.
- To measure advertising, including reporting conversions back to the ad platform that sent you so it can measure our campaigns.
- To confirm commissions with affiliate networks and sellers.
- To respond to you when you contact us.
- To protect the Website against fraud, abuse, bots and security threats.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
Legal bases (UK and EEA visitors). We rely on our legitimate interests in running, securing, measuring and funding a free website; on your consent where the law requires it, for example for non-essential cookies; and on legal obligation where we must keep or disclose information.
4. When we share your information
In short: Only with the service providers and partners needed to run the Website and measure advertising, or where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information for money.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers, such as Cloudflare, which serve the Website and process technical data on our behalf.
- Advertising platforms, such as Google, which receive the click identifier and conversion information so they can measure our ads.
- Affiliate networks and sellers, which receive the reference identifiers in our links so purchases can be attributed to us.
- Professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, under confidentiality duties.
- Authorities and others where required by law or to protect our rights, users or the public.
- A buyer or successor if our business or the Website is sold or reorganised.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
In short: We use a small number of cookies to keep the Website working and to measure it. Advertising partners may set their own cookies when you arrive from their ads.
- Essential and functional: security and performance cookies set by our hosting provider, and a cookie that keeps you on the same version of a page during a design test.
- Measurement and advertising: identifiers that let us and our advertising partners know which ad brought you to the Website and whether a purchase followed.
Where the law requires consent, for example for visitors in the UK and the EEA, we will ask before setting non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may then not work as intended.
6. Third-party websites and advertisers
In short: We are not responsible for the websites you visit through our links.
The Website links to sellers, manufacturers and other third-party websites. Once you leave our Website, the other site's own privacy policy applies. We encourage you to read it, especially before making a purchase or sharing personal information.
7. How long we keep your information
In short: Only as long as we need it.
We keep visit and click data for up to 26 months, and emails for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous so it can no longer identify you.
8. How we keep your information safe
In short: We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards.
The Website is served over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to our systems is limited to people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International transfers
In short: Your information may be processed outside your country.
Our service providers operate in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and countries in the European Economic Area. Where information leaves the UK or EEA, we rely on recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
10. Your privacy rights
In short: Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct or delete your information, and object to some uses of it.
UK and EEA residents have the right to access, correct or delete their personal information; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority: in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EEA, your local authority.
US residents of states with consumer privacy laws, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and Utah, may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to access, correct and delete it; and to opt out of the sale of personal information or its sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Sharing advertising click identifiers with ad platforms may count as "sharing" under some of these laws; you can opt out by contacting us or by turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser, which we treat as an opt-out request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Advertising choices. You can opt out of personalised advertising from many companies at optout.aboutads.info, youronlinechoices.eu and in your Google ad settings.
To make a request, contact us using section 14. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it, and you may use an authorised agent where the law allows.
11. Do-Not-Track
Browsers handle Do-Not-Track signals inconsistently and there is no agreed standard for responding to them, so we do not currently respond to them. We do honour Global Privacy Control as described above.
12. Children
The Website is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make significant changes, we will make that clear on the Website.
